Acclaimed international veterinarian Dr. Roland Devolz has died at the age of 83.

Devolz was a legendary veterinarian who made a remarkable contribution to our sport in France and internationally. Having first advised Jean Romanet on international matters in 1970, Roland was appointed as technical adviser in 1994 at the first International Federation of Horseracing Authorities Executive Council meeting after the establishment of the IFHA. Through his deep technical knowledge, wise counsel, lifelong commitment, and passion to ensure fair competition and improving the Thoroughbred breed, Devolz played a pivotal role in guiding the IFHA across a wide spectrum of racing and breeding issues for close to 30 years. In recognition of his contribution, Devolz was presented a gift by the IFHA chair at last year's IFHA General Assembly held in Paris in October.

Devolz was extraordinarily passionate, dedicated, and effective at addressing any challenges in relation to racing integrity, horse welfare, and the international movement of horses. His devotion and passion for the Thoroughbred breed, for the sport of racing, and for other equestrian sports, informed everything he did to improve and develop international standards.

Aside from serving the IFHA for nearly three decades, Devolz was also a long-standing member of the International Horse Sports Confederation Expert Committee, where he constantly shared his wisdom and knowledge in collaborative work with the Fédération Equestre Internationale and the World Organization for Animal Health.

Devolz was a remarkable person and dear friend to many in the French and international racing community, and he will be so deeply missed.
