Texas-Bred Cosmetology the First Winner for Bradester

Cosmetology, a 2-year-old daughter of Bradester, gave the freshman sire his first winner when she took an Aug. 9 maiden special weight at Lone Star Park in her second start late Sunday. The ninth race, a 5 1/2-furlong test for Texas accredited 2-year-old fillies, drew a field of 11. Blackhorse Farm's Cosmetology, trained by Danny Pish, was the first out of the gate with Danny Sorenson aboard, but it was Thatsalotofbling who led Not Enough Bling through the first quarter-mile in :22.70 as Cosmetology settled in third. At the half-mile mark Not Enough Bling had a head in front in :46.51, but Sorenson and Cosmetology bided their time behind the two leaders until the top of the stretch where they had moved into second on the far outside. Battling to the wire with Thatsalotofbling, Cosmetology won by a head in a final time of 1:06.03, while third-placed Not Enough Bling was eight lengths back. Bred by Joseph Sutton in partnership with her current owner, Cosmetology is the second foal and second winner out of the Fear the Cape mare Fear the Facelift. The filly finished second in her July 22 debut at the same track. During his racing career Bradester was trained by Eddie Kenneally for Sutton from age 2-6, winning 10 times. The son of Lion Heart won his first stakes as a 4-year-old, taking the Mineshaft Handicap (G3) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. As he got older he won more often, and eventually scored a top-level victory in the Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) at 6. Bradester retired to Valor Farm near Pilot Point, Texas, with a record of 10-6-3 in 26 starts. Bred by Doug Branham in Kentucky, Bradester is out of the Grand Slam mare Grandestofall, and is her only stakes winner from three foals to race. Now a 10-year-old, his 2020 stud fee was $3,000.
