Pioneerof the Nile Colts Top F-T Pinhook Prospects
Two colts from the penultimate crop of the late prominent stallion Pioneerof the Nile top the list of previously purchased horses entered in Fasig-Tipton's Selected Yearlings Showcase Sept. 9-10 in Lexington. Pioneerof the Nile, whose progeny included Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, died suddenly March 18, 2019, at WinStar Farm. His foals of 2020 will be his final crop. According to The Jockey Club, 48 mares were bred to the son of Empire Maker in 2019. The priciest pinhook prospect in the auction is Hip 586, a colt that was purchased by consignor Baccari Bloodstock, agent, for $400,000 from the Eaton Sales, agent, consignment to last year's Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Bred in Kentucky by Jumping Jack Racing, the foal was produced from the unraced Smart Strike mare Emily B, a half sister to grade 1-winning millionaire Awesome Maria. The colt's third dam is the grade 1-winning Private Account mare Pretty Discreet, whose seven winners include grade 1 winners and sires Discreet Cat and Discreetly Mine, and stakes winner and grade 1-placed Pretty Wild, also a sire. Another Keeneland November weanling purchase, Hip 365 is a Virginia-bred colt bought by Peter Pugh for Cherry Knoll Farm for $385,000 from breeder Morgan's Ford Farm, agent. Consigned to the upcoming sale by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, the foal was produced from the winning Montbrook mare Skipstone, also the dam of stakes winner and multiple graded-placed Skipalute. Second dam, Never a No Hitter, produced grade 2 winner Tizahit, the dam of Ketel One Ballerina (G1) winner Come Dancing. Never a No Hitter is one of seven winners produced from the multiple grade 3 winner Jeano, the granddam of champion Folklore and other black-type winners. Topping the Fasig-Tipton yearlings that were previously offered at auction and bought back is Hip 582, a daughter of prominent sire Medaglia d'Oro that went unsold on a final bid of $590,000 when offered by Bluewater Sales, agent, at The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's selected breeding stock sale. Part of Bluewater's consignment as a yearling, the filly was bred in Kentucky by Southern Equine Stables. Hip 582's dam, the Street Cry mare Elle Sueno, is a daughter of the grade 1-winning Pulpit mare Mi Sueno, who has also produced Japanese grade 3 winner Mi Suerte (JPN). The female family includes grade 1 winners Madcap Escapade and Dubai Escapade.
