Like a Saltshaker First Winner for Peace and Justice

Magic Oaks' Like a Saltshaker broke through the maiden ranks Sept. 29 at Presque Isle Downs with a 3 1/4-length frontrunning victory, leaving behind nine other juvenile fillies in the six-furlong maiden special weight to reward her sire Peace and Justice with his first winner. Ridden by Harry Hernandez, Like a Saltshaker was a half-length in front as she set opening fractions of :22.37 and :45.18 through a half-mile. She then pulled clear down the stretch for a final time of 1:09.22 over the fast all-weather surface. Tuesday's race was the second outing for the Adam Rice trainee, who was fourth on debut Sept. 10 at Presque Isle. Peace and Justice, a three-time winner on turf from eight starts for Justice Family Racing Stables, is a 10-year-old son of War Front out of the Smart Strike mare Strike the Sky, also dam of Dixie Stakes (G2T) winner Hudson Steele and Lauren Byrd, who is stakes-placed on the turf. The dark bay entered stud in 2017 at Diamond B Farm in Pennsylvania, then moved to Northview PA in 2018 and stood for $3,500 in 2020. Northview sold its Pennsylvania division this year to consolidate and focus on its Maryland operation. Like a Saltshaker was bred in Pennsylvania by Diamond B Farm owner Glenn Brok out of the Harlan's Holiday mare With Sprinkles.
