Ingratiating First Black-Type Winner for Frosted

Australia-bred runner Ingratiating (AUS) became the first black-type winner for Darley stallion Frosted when he won the Darley Maribyrnong Trial Stakes Oct. 3 at Flemington. Trained by James Cummings, Ingratiating was bred by Godolphin Australia out of the Lonhro (AUS) mare Obsequious (AUS), who won the MTA San Domenico Stakes (G3) and Patinack Farm Light Fingers Stakes (G2) on the turf at Randwick while racing from 2 to 4. The Maribyrnong Trial was the first start for the 2-year-old Ingratiating, who earned $80,941 for his efforts. An 8-year-old son of Gainesway stallion Tapit, Frosted won five stakes racing from 2014-16 when campaigned by Godolphin Racing and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. He won the Twinspires.com Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) and Pennsylvania Derby (G2) at 3 and finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and second in the Belmont Stakes Presented by DraftKings (G1) before coming back to run third in the Travers Stakes (G1). A 4, Frosted captured the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 Sponsored By EGA (G2) in Dubai. In what would be the best performance of his career, he rolled to a 14 1/4-length victory in the Mohegan Sun Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Belmont Park and set the stakes record of 1:32.73. Frosted went on to add another victory in the Whitney Stakes (G1), finished third in the Woodward Stakes (G1), and eventually retired after a sixth-place finish in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). He stands for a $40,000 fee at Darley America near Lexington. He shuttled to Northwood Park in Australia where he stood for a fee of AU$22,000.
