Shadai Farm Spends $1.6 Million for Lady Prancealot
Two days after running a respectable fourth in the Maker's Mark Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T) at Keeneland, Lady Prancealot (IRE) went through the sale ring during the Nov. 9 first session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, bringing $1.6 million. The 4-year-old daughter of Sir Prancealot (IRE) won last year's American Oaks (G1T) and two other graded turf stakes, while placing in five graded stakes for Medallion Racing, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Craig Arntz, Josie Arntz, Donald Durando, Jules Iavarone, Michael Iavarone, Jerry McClanahan. She is now headed for a broodmare career after being purchased by Japan-based Shadai Farm from Taylor Made Sales Agency. "My guess is that she will be a broodmare," said Naohiro Hosoda, who signed the sale ticket. "She is a grade 1 winner on the grass and our main racing is on the grass in the Japanese racing program. We have many options for breeding." Phillip Shelton, of Medallion Racing and Taylor Made, said the owners were not surprised by the filly's price considering her Breeders' Cup effort and the robust market at The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's breeding stock sale Nov. 8. "If you had asked me Friday, I would have been surprised (at the price)," Shelton said. "But after the way she ran in the Breeders' Cup and the strength of the market last night (at Fasig-Tipton) … Any time you have a strong market and there is a dominant buying force, it means a lot of people are not getting horses bought. I think we were expecting a strong showing today and $1.6 million was a great result for everybody. She's a 4-year-old and there is blue sky ahead. They are going to breed her. If we couldn't get it done we were happy to take her back and run her. We have to thank all of our (Medallion Racing) partners for putting their faith in us." Bred in Ireland by Tallyho Stud, Lady Prancealot was produced from the Haatef mare Naqrah, a half sister to group 2 winner Baqah, the dam of grade 1 winner Almanaar (GB). Shadai purchased two other mares during Monday's session including Hip 51, Layla Noor, a daughter of Midnight Lute consigned by Denali Stud, agent. Bred and campaigned by Lael Stables, the 5-year-old is out of the Pulpit mare Senada and was purchased on a final bid of $660,000. Closing out the day's purchases was Hip 82, Olendon (FR), who was consigned by ELiTE Sales, agent. Bred in France by Franklin Finance S.A., Elisabeth Ribard, and Sylvain Vidal, the daughter of Le Havre (IRE) was secured for $280,000. Total receipts for all three mares came to $2.54 million.
