English Channel, the leading North American turf sire as of Nov. 30, continues his reign at the top of Calumet Farm's sire roster, where the son of Smart Strike commands a 2021 fee of $27,500. Bolstered by multiple grade 1 winner Channel Maker, English Channel has $4,624,125 in progeny earnings, which puts him just shy of $139,000 ahead of Kitten's Joy. The Calumet sire has sired 54 career black-type winners worldwide, of which 28 have won graded/group stakes and six are champions. New to the Calumet stud barn for 2021 is multiple grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner Bravazo, a Calumet Farm homebred, who enters stud at $6,000. The 5-year-old son of Awesome Again raced from 2 to 5, compiling a 3-4-3 record from 22 starts and banking $2,033,195 in earnings. "Bravazo was an iron horse on the track," said Calumet's Eddie Kane. "He was a fierce competitor with great resolve and determination. I'm confident he will establish this toughness in his progeny." Keen Ice, who first crop are yearlings of 2020, has the farm's second-highest fee at $12,500. The 8-year-old son of Curlin and grade 1 winner was represented by a $100,000 yearling at Fasig-Tipton's October Yearling Sale.
