Late-running Senor Buscador, winner of last fall's Remington Springboard Mile Stakes, is off the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) trail with a minor ligament strain, according to owner Joey Peacock.

The 3-year-old son of Mineshaft  worked a half-mile in :49 3/5 Feb. 26 at Sam Houston Race Park but came out of the breeze a "little bit off," Peacock wrote in an email. The work followed a fifth in the Risen Star Stakes Presented by Lamarque Ford at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots Feb. 13.

"We could give him a few days off and then try to keep going, but out of an abundance of caution, we are going to stop training and take our time to evaluate his condition," Peacock continued in an email. "He's a young horse with a bright future and we are going to do our best to see that he gets the care he needs to sustain a long racing career."

Bred in Kentucky by Peacock and his late father, Joe Peacock Sr., Senor Buscador was 2-for-2 as a juvenile, winning a maiden race at Remington Park before the Springboard Mile there for trainer Todd Fincher.

Out of the Desert God mare Rose's Desert, he is related to two other stakes winners, including 2018 Sunland Park Derby (G3) winner Runaway Ghost, who also missed the Kentucky Derby due to injury.
