Dubawi First British Sire to Reach 200 Stakes Scorers

The exciting Philomene (IRE), a half sister to Darley Irish Oaks (G1) heroine Chicquita (IRE) and group 1 winner Magic Wand (IRE), provided Dubawi (IRE) with his 200th stakes winner when breezing to victory in the Prix Penelope (G3) at Saint-Cloud April 6. Out of the brilliant producer Prudenzia (IRE), a listed-winning daughter of Dansili (GB), Philomene was yet another seven-figure lot for her dam when selling to Godolphin for €1,625,000 (US$1,802,288) at Arqana's August Sale in 2019. A cozy winner on debut at ParisLongchamp last September, the unbeaten filly was bred by Ecurie Des Monceaux and Skymarc Farm, who each retain a 25% share of the promising 3-year-old. Philomene's smooth success was a landmark moment for her sire, arguably the most successful British stallion in history. Expectations were high for the classic-winning son of the great Dubai Millennium (GB) when he retired to Dalham Hall in 2006 and he is now responsible for 44 individual winners at the highest level among 130 individual group winners. The sire of promising young stallions including Night of Thunder (IRE), New Bay (GB), Postponed (IRE), and Too Darn Hot (GB), Dubawi was also responsible for last year's world champion Ghaiyyath (IRE), who is standing his first season at Darley's Kildangan Stud, and recent Dubai Turf Sponsored by DP World (G1) victor Lord North (IRE). Dubawi has also been making his mark as a broodmare sire, with Sand Vixen (GB)—his first ever stakes winner—producing Dream Castle (GB) to win the Jebel Hatta Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1) in 2019.
