Drumette Honored as Broodmare of the Year

The Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders April 7 announced the 2020 Kentucky-bred champions, merit award winners, and Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund leaders. Drumette, the dam of dual champion and two-time Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) heroine Monomoy Girl and 2020 Risen Star Stakes Presented by Lamarque Ford (G2) winner Mr. Monomoy, was named the 2020 Broodmare of the Year. Authentic was honored as the Kentucky-bred Horse of the Year and as the Kentucky-bred champion 3-year-old male off of a season that included victories in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) and the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). The 2020 merit awards, presented during Wednesday's KTOB awards luncheon at Keeneland, included the P.A.B. Widener Trophy for KTOB Breeder of the Year. Godolphin, breeder of Kentucky-bred champion 2-year-old male Essential Quality, was named the winner of the award. Beau Lane received the Hardboot Breeders' Award, which pays tribute to distinctive but unsung breeders that help make up the backbone of the racing industry; Donna Barton Brothers was the winner of the Charles W. Engelhard Award, which acknowledges a member of the media for outstanding coverage of the Thoroughbred industry; and Blue Grass Farms Charities was presented the William T. Young Humanitarian Award for a person or organization in the Thoroughbred industry "who recognizes and promotes the human endeavor." Recipients of the 2020 KTOB Kentucky-bred champion awards were voted on by the full membership of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and KTOB while the KTDF category leaders were tabulated using purse money won at Kentucky racetracks in 2020. KTOB merit award recipients were voted on by the KTA/KTOB board of directors.
