Karl and Cathi Glassman of Stuart, Fla., added to their racing stable when they extended to $335,000 to secure the bid on Hip 506, a colt by Hard Spun , during the second session of the June 10 Ocala Breeders’ Sales June Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.
Consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent, the colt is out of the unraced Speightstown mare Lovisa, a half sister to stakes winners High Noon Rider and Poupee Flash. The colt hails from the family of champion sprinter Aldebaran and grade 1 winner Good Journey. Lovisa produced a colt by Nyquist last year.
Bred in Kentucky by Highfield Farm, the colt was previously purchased for $100,000 last year by Eisaman Equine from the Timber Town consignment at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The colt breezed one furlong in :10 3/5 at the under tack preview.
“I trust everything Barry Eisaman does, so Barry’s background had a lot to do with it,” said Karl. “The Hard Spuns are just good, durable horses. I know that he’s not going to be real precocious, but he looks like genetically like he should be a two-turn runner.
“We’re patient, the horse’s welfare is what is most important to us,” he added, “and I know that Barry and Shari (Eisaman) have done a great job taking care of him. We buy yearlings and 2-year-olds, and Barry takes care of all the yearlings, so there is familiarity and trust there, which is everything.”
With the newest addition, the Glassmans have 16 horses in training with trainers Brad Cox, Eddie Plesa, and Brittany Russell. Karl indicated that the Hard Spun colt will join Russell’s string in Maryland.
