Woodbine, Delaware Park Cancel Racing Sept. 23

Woodbine and Delaware Park canceled racing Sept. 23 after heavy rain at the two tracks. Woodbine also noted unfavorable track conditions, leading to the cancellation "in the best interest of safety for all horses and participants." The Canadian track has a Tapeta synthetic surface. Such surfaces typically handle rainfall and inclement weather better than dirt when they drain effectively. Woodbine initially hoped to conduct the card by delaying post time before ultimately deciding to cancel. It said its track maintenance team will continue working on the Tapeta surface throughout the remainder of Thursday and into Sept. 24. Racing resumes at Woodbine Friday afternoon at 4:50 p.m. ET. Delaware's next racing day is Sept. 25 with an 11-race card, offering $796,000 in purses during an Owner's Day program.
