The pure white filly Sodashi is the red-hot favorite for the Oct. 17 Shuka Sho (G1), the final leg of Japan's Triple Tiara for 3-year-old fillies, to be run at 2,000 meters (about 1 1/4 miles) on the Hanshin turf.
Sodashi is a homebred for Makoto Kaneko, the owner of late prominent Japanese sires Deep Impact and King Kamehameha. The Kurofune daughter has won six of seven starts in her career.
She remained unbeaten through four starts in 2020, including the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies (G1), and was honored as Japan's champion 2-year-old filly. Sodashi won the April 11 Oka Sho (Japanese One Thousand Guineas, G1), on her seasonal debut and became the first-ever white horse to win the classic.
She experienced her first defeat in the May 23 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks, G1) at Tokyo when the mile and half was too far and she finished eighth. Sodashi rebounded nicely at Sapporo Aug. 22, winning the Sapporo Kinen (G2) over 2,000 meters and beating older horses. This form is regarded highly, as the runner-up, Loves Only You, winner of the April 25 FWD Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ Cup (G1) at Sha Tin, is training for the Maker's Mark Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T).
The current field for the Shuka Sho also includes Uberleben and Akaitorino Musume, the respective first- and second-place finishers of the Yushun Himba.
