Gary Broad, who bought Walmac Farm in 2018, announced Dec. 17 he is launching the stallion segment of the historic farm's next chapter with his just-retired multiple graded stakes winner and near-millionaire earner Core Beliefs .
Walmac has been home to many top sires through the years, and Core Beliefs will seek to add his name to its illustrious roster of influential stallions, including Nureyev, Miswaki, Successful Appeal, and Alleged.
Core Beliefs, a 6-year-old son of Quality Road , will stand the 2022 season for $7,500 with a stands and nurses guarantee. Breeders will also have the option of securing a "one and done" lifetime breeding right by paying $10,000 after getting a live foal.
"We're excited about resurrecting historic Walmac Farm," said Broad. "We have been working hard the last two years making improvements to Walmac, and the timing is perfect to launch the stallion operation with Core Beliefs, a horse that we really believe in. He is a multiple-graded stakes winner by Quality Road, and he has all the necessary ingredients to be a successful stallion. We're looking forward to introducing him to breeders for the upcoming breeding season. I can't wait for breeders to come out and see him. I think they will really like his physical."
Acquired by Broad for $350,000 from the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2017 Barretts Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, Core Beliefs showed his competitive spirit from the start. He placed in his first two races at Santa Anita Park before winning 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight by 3 3/4 lengths and earning a 108 Equibase Speed Figure for the performance. His next start with trainer Peter Eurton produced a third in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) behind eventual Triple Crown winner Justify and multiple grade 1 winner Bolt d'Oro.
Core Beliefs went on to win the $500,000 Ohio Derby (G3) and also captured the 2019 $400,000 New Orleans Handicap (G2) at the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots en route to compiling a 3-2-5 record from 18 starts and earning $953,988. In addition to his stakes victories, he also finished second, beaten just a head, in the Peter Pan Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park.
The New Orleans Handicap would be Core Beliefs' biggest career victory having defeated a field that included eventual multiple graded stakes winner Silver Dust, grade 1-placed and Oklahoma Derby (G3) winner Lone Sailor, Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Noble Indy, and multiple stakes winner and eventual millionaire Mr. Buff.
Core Beliefs is out of the Tactical Advantage winner Tejati, who is a half sister to graded stakes-placed winner Pajamas and stakes-placed winner Alex's Disaster. His immediate family also has produced Pin Oak Stud homebred Hasten to Add, who was 1995 Canadian champion grass horse; grade 1 winner and multiple graded winner See How She Runs; and, multiple grade 3 winner Don't Leave Me.
