Lone Star Park's 2022 Stakes Schedule Increased $600K

Lone Star Park announced Dec. 21 a $600,000 increase to its 2022 Thoroughbred stakes schedule during a planned 48-day season from April 28-July 24. Twenty-one races comprise the stakes schedule, worth $2,825,000. The Texas track will mostly race in the evenings beginning at 6:35 p.m. CT on Thursdays and Fridays and on weekends and holidays at 1:35 p.m. There will be special twilight post times of 5 p.m. July 3-4. The highlight of the stakes schedule is Lone Star Million Day on Memorial Day, led by the $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile (G3) for 3-year-olds and older at one mile. New to this year's Lone Star Million day card will be the $100,000 guaranteed Speightstown Sprint for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs on dirt. Later in the meet, the Summer Turf Festival will return July 16 with significant purse increases in all four stakes. Other than the $75,000 Bluebonnet Stakes which kicks off the season on opening night all other stakes will be held on one of four dates: Lone Star Million Day, Monday, May 30—six stakes worth a total of $1.2 million Lone Star Showcase Day, Sunday, June 19—five stakes worth a total of $375,000 Summer Turf Festival, Saturday, July 16—four stakes worth a total of $750,000 Stars of Texas Day, Sunday, July 17—five stakes worth a total of $425,000 Total purses will average an estimated $268,000 per day.
