Ask Victor More captured the Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho Deep Impact Kinen (G2) March 6 at Nakayama Racecourse when he bested favorite Do Deuce at the bottom of the stretch to prevail by a neck. The 3-year-old Deep Impact (JPN) colt piloted by Hironobu Tanabe, was the lone representative of the late stallion in a field of 11 rivals.
Do Deuce, the 2021 Japanese Champion 2-year-old male by Heart's Cry (JPN), suffered his first loss in four trips to the post in the Yayoi Sho.
Also in the mix was another son of Heart's Cry, Born This Way, who came in third after being edged out by both frontrunners.
The Yayoi Sho takes place at the same course and distance as the Satsuki Sho (G1), which is the first leg of the Japanese Triple Crown. It often provides fans with an insight into who will run in the Tokyo Yushun Japanese Derby (G1). Past race winners include Deep Impact, Logi Universe, and Makahiki, who all went on to respective wins in the Japanese Derby.
Ask Victor More, bred by Shadai Farm, is the sixth foal out of the graded stakes placed Rainbow Quest mare, Kartica (GB), whose six foals to race have produced four winners. The colt is also a half brother to group 1 winner Qemah. He was acquired by Toshihiro Hirosaki at the Japan Race Horse Association Select Sale for ¥170 million (US$1,588,786).
