Arqana to Sell Prix Vermeille Winner Sweet Lady
Recent ParisLongchamp Qatar Prix Vermeille (G1) winner Sweet Lady (FR) will be offered at Arqana's Vente d'Élevage that will take place Dec. 3-6 in Deauville. A dual winner at 2, the Gemini Stud-owned filly started her 3-year-old season in style winning the listed Prix La Camargo by six lengths, before taking the Prix de Flore (G3) with ease after showing impressive acceleration once again. This spring, she was victorious in the Prix Corrida (G2) before taking the Prix Vermeille last month at ParisLongchamp. Her trainer Francis-Henri Graffard commented: "It's been a pleasure to train this magnificent filly for the last three years. Very brave and with a great temperament, she achieved all her objectives this year by winning the best races reserved for fillies and mares in France, the Prix Corrida and the Prix Vermeille. We always love going to the races with her and I'm very lucky to train her." Gemini Stud's representative, Francis Teboul declared: "Don't be fooled by her name Sweet Lady because she is a real warrior and the bravest horse we own!" With a current rating of 112, Sweet Lady, by Lope de Vega (IRE), a very promising broodmare sire of notably Vida Amorosa, who has produced group winner Persian Force (IRE). Out of the dual-listed winner High Heel Sneakers (GB), she hails from the American maternal line of Miss Carmie (FR), including Chris Evert, Chief's Crown, Etoile Montante, Sightseek, Special Duty (GB), Tates Creek, Winning Colors, Confessional (GB), Excellent Art (GB), and Deep Sky. She will go through the ring on the first evening of the sale, Dec. 3, alongside a selection of exceptional foals, fillies, and mares. The Arqana Vente d'Élevage catalog will be available Oct. 31 at www.arqana.com. During the four days of selling in 2021 Arqana reported 688 horses of the 909 on offer sold for gross receipts of €41,541,000 (US$40,337,890) at an average price of €60,379 ($58,630) and a median of €15,000 ($14,565). Last year the sale was topped by the grade 1-winning Territories (IRE) filly Rougir (FR), consigned by Sumbe as Lot 160. Oceanic Bloodstock went to €3,000,000 ($3,393,044) to secure the then 3-year-old for clients White Birch Farm and M.V. Magnier. Since changing hands, she has made her U.S. debut with trainer Chad Brown winning both the Beaugay Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park and the E.P. Taylor Stakes (G1T) at Woodbine in Canada. She currently sits on earnings of $1,037,824 in 19 starts with a record of 6-1-3.
