Silent Runner wins the Lake Huron Stakes at Woodbine

The third leg of Ontario Racing's Thoroughbred Improvement Program's Ontario Sire Heritage Series, the CA$100,000 Thunder Bay for 3-year-old fillies, and CA$100,000 Lake Superior for 3-year-old colts and geldings, share the spotlight on the afternoon card Oct. 21 at Woodbine.

Nine fillies, including series leader, Pleasure's Gold, will take to the E.P. Taylor Turf Course for the seven-furlong Thunder Bay, slated as Race 5.

A homebred owned by Elizabeth and Gordon Lickrish, the daughter of Souper Speedy—Good as Gold brings a 2-2-2 record from six starts into Friday's engagement.

Trained by Tino Attard, Pleasure's Gold was second when she tested out the grass for the first time in the five-furlong Georgian Bay Stakes over the Inner Turf at Woodbine Aug. 12. The race was the opening leg of the Ontario Sired Heritage Series for sophomore fillies.

Pleasure's Gold broke her stakes maiden in the $100,000 Rondeau Bay, leg two of the Ontario Sire Heritage Series, at Fort Erie last time out, a two-length triumph in the six-furlong main track event on Sept. 13.

Other starters include Souper Flashy (trained by Attard's son Kevin), who was second to Pleasure's Gold in the Rondeau Bay, and Sacred Dancer, a four-length winner in her latest effort Sept. 29 at Woodbine.

Seven starters will vie for top prize in the Lake Superior.

Bossy Holiday, an Ivan Dalos homebred, heads into the race in winning form and atop the Ontario Sire Heritage Series point standings.

Trained by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee Josie Carroll, the son of Ami's Holiday—Bossy Saratoga showed plenty of grit in taking leg two of the Ontario Sire Heritage Series, the CA$100,000 Lake Erie Stakes over the Fort Erie main track Sept. 13.

Under Luis Contreras, who will be in the irons again, Bossy Holiday, in front by a head at the stretch call, was able to stave off his rivals to win by the same margin in the six-furlong race.

The dark bay colt is 3-1-0 from 10 starts.

Bossy Holiday will be tested by Silent Runner the winner of leg one of the Ontario Sire Heritage Series in the CA$100,000 Lake Huron, Elgin Stakes victor Full Screen, and ultra-consistent Julia Carey pupil Giant Teddy.

The Ontario Sire Heritage Series is comprised of three CA$100,000 legs and a CA$100,000 final. At the conclusion of the final $70,000 in bonuses will be paid to the top three horses in each division based on a points system, with $20,000 to first, $10,000 to second, and $5,000 to third.
