Early during the second day of selling, Oct. 25, at the Kentucky October Yearlings Sale at Fasig-Tipton, a colt (Hip 425) by Uncle Mo commanded the early lead at $350,000 from the racing partnership of BSW/Crow Colts Group/Spendthrift/Gandharvi.
"Obviously, the sire power is there; Uncle Mo is as good a sire as you can ask for," said Jake Memolo of BSW/Crow after signing for the colt. "This colt is a good, strong, fast-looking horse, and we're happy to get him at that price. We got one yesterday and hope to add a couple more this week. Currently, we are at 15 head, and maybe add two to three more and see where we go."
Wynnstay Sales consigned the colt named Adore Him on behalf of his breeders Deann and Greg Baer, DVM. This was the second trip through the sales ring after the colt out of Adore You failed to meet his reserve at the 2021 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $320,000.
The Kentucky-bred colt is a half sibling to the multiple graded placed stakes winner Piedi Bianchi, by Overanalyze. The hard-knocking filly was runner-up in the Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1) and third in both the Chandelier Stakes (G1) and Starlet Stakes (G1) of her juvenile year. At 5, she finished third in the Ruffian Stakes (G2) and came back the following year to place in the Inside Information Stakes (G2) before switching to the turf, coming second in the Intercontinental Stakes (G3T).
His other two brothers are stakes winner Mind Reader, by Gemologist, and 4-year-old Outadore, by Outwork. Outadore was third in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Presented by Coolmore America (G1T) and won stakes on the dirt at 3 in the Animal Kingdom Stakes and Woodstock Stakes.
"Liz (Crow) has done so well at this sale; it's a sale she likes to target a bit," Memolo said. "We knew we would probably have a little money left over here. We have found enough quality to go after, and this sale presents a lot of quality, so it's always nice to come here with a little money to spend."
On the first day of the sale, Oct. 24, the partnership picked up a City of Light colt, consigned as Hip 249 by Gainesway, for $260,000. The colt out of Terrific Tiffany was bred in Kentucky by William Humphries and Altair Farms, who sent him through the 2021 Keeneland November Sale, where he sold for $250,000 to Clear Ridge Stables. This year he RNA'd at the Keeneland September Sale at $250,000 before changing hands Monday.
