Shadai Corporation, the managing company for the Shadai Stallion Station on Hokkaido Island in Japan, announced the 2023 stud fees for their 32 stallions ahead of the upcoming breeding season.

The roster is headlined by Epiphaneia, who boasts three grade 1 winners from his first two crops, including Daring Tact, the unbeaten Japanese Triple Tiara winner and Champion 3-year-old filly for 2020. The son of Symboli Kris S stands for ¥18,000,000 (US$129,268), unchanged from 2022.

Lord Kanaloa is reduced from ¥15,000,000 ($107,723) in 2022 to ¥12,000,000 ($86,178), and Kitasan Black doubles from ¥5,000,000 ($35,907) in 2022 to ¥10,000,000 ($71,815) in 2023.

The 2016-17 JRA Horse of the Year, Kitasan Black, began stud duty at Shadai in 2018; his first crop are 3-year-olds of 2022. The son of Black Tide has recorded two graded stakes winners from his first crop, including Equinox, winner of the Tenno Sho Autumn (G1) at Tokyo Racecourse Oct. 30. He is the likely favorite in the Dec. 25 Arima Kinen (G1) at Nakayama.

The 2-year-old filly Ravel, by Kitasan Black, is an unbeaten winner of the Oct. 29 Artemis Stakes (G3) at Tokyo and a leading contender for the 3-year-old Classic races for fillies next year. Her next start will be in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies (G1) Dec. 11.

Stud fees for Saturnalia and Maurice have been raised from ¥7,000,000 ($50,270) in 2022 to ¥8,000,000 ($57,452) for next year.
