Turfway Park Releases Winter/Spring Stakes Schedule

Turfway Park released its stakes schedule Dec. 14 for the Winter/Spring meet that starts Jan. 1. The track in Florence, Ky., will feature 20 stakes worth $3.85 million during its 48-day meet that runs through April 1. Racing will be held Wednesday-Saturday in January-February and Thursday-Saturday March 2-April 1. 2023 Turfway Park Winter/Spring Stakes Schedule Headlining the stakes schedule is the $700,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3), which will be run March 25 and is one of the first Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifying races that awards 100 points to the winner. Jeff Ruby Steaks Day will feature a total of six stakes that besides the main event will include the $300,000 TwinSpires Ky Cup Classic, $300,000 Bourbonette Oaks, $250,000 Animal Kingdom Stakes, $250,000 Latonia Stakes, and $250,000 Rushaway Stakes. The Bourbonette Oaks is a qualifying race for the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) that awards 50 points to the winner. The Road to the Kentucky Derby's first stop at Turfway is March 4 for the $150,000 John Battaglia Memorial, which awards 20-8-6-4-2 in points to the top five finishers. The card will also feature the $150,000 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes, the track's first race on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks that has the same points scheme. Along with the stakes schedule, director of racing Tyler Picklesimer's will write races worth an average of $188,000 per day. Turfway began its 19-day Holiday Meet Nov. 30 and will run through Dec. 31.
