Funtastic Again First Black-Type Winner for Funtastic

Funtastic Again became the first black-type winner for Three Chimneys stallion Funtastic when he cruised to a 3 3/4-length victory Jan. 21 in the $125,000 Leonatus Stakes at Turfway Park. Owned by Three Chimneys and trained by Wesley Ward, the 3-year-old colt came off a 5 1/2-length allowance win going a mile at the Northern Kentucky track and returned to the same distance over the all-weather surface there to secure his first stakes score. With Gerardo Corrales in the irons, Funtastic Again broke alertly from post 3 as the favorite in a nine-horse field and sped straight to the front, where he posted fractions of :24.09, :48.12, and 1:12.67. American Speed gave chase but settled for second when the frontrunner powered away in impressive fashion. Funtastic Again ($4.26) stopped the clock in 1:37.05. Ironsides missed the runner-up spot by a nose and showed to complete the trifecta. Bred in Kentucky by BHMFR out of the Broken Vow mare Repeta, Funtastic Again improved his record to three wins from five starts, with earnings of $184,806. He was a $70,000 purchase by Three Chimneys from Hunter Valley Farm's consignment to the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Funtastic (More Than Ready) won the 2018 United Nations Stakes (G1T). A half brother to 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam and to the Giant's Causeway mare Quiet Giant, the dam of Gun Runner, he stands the upcoming 2023 season for an advertised fee of $5,000 stands and nurses.
