Darley's Maxfield to Shuttle to Argentina

Maxfield, a dual grade 1 winner who stands at Darley at Jonabell in Central Kentucky, will shuttle this year to Haras Firmamento for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season in Argentina, Darley announced May 24. The 6-year-old son of Street Sense, who won the 2019 Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland and seven other races in an 11-race career in which he earned over $2 million, entered stud in 2022 at Darley after a 2021-capping victory in the Clark Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs. In between those top-level victories, he won four more graded races, including the Alysheba Stakes (G2) and the Stephen Foster Stakes (G2), both at Churchill Downs. He also ran second in the Woodward Stakes (G1) and Whitney Stakes (G1) in New York. He bred 163 mares in 2022 and stands this year for an advertised fee of $40,000 at Darley. "We are very excited with what we're seeing from Maxfield's first crop hitting the ground this year, and are pleased to be able to team up with a stud farm as prestigious as Haras Firmamento," Darley sales manager Darren Fox said. A stallion fee at Haras Firmamento was not announced. A Godolphin homebred trained by Brendan Walsh, Maxfield is the lone stakes winner of four to race out of Bernardini mare Velvety, a half sister to Sky Mesa. His second dam is the multiple graded stakes-winning Storm Cat mare Caress.
