Dreamfyre Becomes First Stakes Winner for Flameaway

In an impressive career debut, Danny Eplin's Dreamfyre made short work of her rivals in winning the $75,000 Everett Nevin Stakes at Pleasanton July 9, to become the first stakes winner and fourth overall winner for first crop sire Flameaway. Trained by O.J. Jauregui, Dreamfyre took command of the 5 1/2-furlong event at the break and set quick fractions throughout en route to a 3 1/2-length victory under jockey Francisco Duran. She stopped the timer in 1:04.51 for 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast main track. Bred in Kentucky by John Oxley, Dreamfyre was acquired by Eplin at this year's Ocala Breeders' Sale Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training for $140,000. The filly breezed a snappy :9 4/5 at the sale's under tack show. Dreamfyre is produced from the graded stakes-placed Sky Mesa mare Appreciating and is a half sister to grade 1-placed Nasreddine. Multiple graded stakes winner Flameaway, currently ranked No. 3 on the first crop sire list, boasts four winners so far this year. The son of Scat Daddy's first 2-year-olds at auction have lit up the board this year and they include a filly that sold to Justin Casse, agent, for $370,000, the highest-priced horse by a freshman sire at the Ocala Breeders' Sales June Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age and the highest-priced filly of the sale overall. Flameaway stands at Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky for a fee of $7,500.
