The fourth race at Kyoto, Oct. 8, a hurdle race for 3-year-olds and up, was won by Rock You. The 5-year-old gelding gave Deep Impact his 2,570 progeny win at JRA. The win surpassed the previous record set by Sunday Silence, whose crop won 2,569 races from 1994 through 2010.
The 2005-2006 Japanese Horse of the Year took to stud duty at Shadai Stallion Station in 2007 and saw his first winner at JRA June 26, 2010, when Silent Sonic won a juvenile maiden test at Fukushima.
Deep Impact topped the Japanese Sires' Ranking for the first time in 2012, when his first crop was 4, and has occupied the top spot for 11 consecutive years until 2022.
The sire has seen 71 grade 1 winners at JRA thus far, the same as his sire, Sunday Silence, a 22-time leading sire for Japan. Sunday Silence saw 311 graded stakes at JRA, while Deep Impact has had 286.
Deep Impact died in July 2019; his final crop includes the three-time grade 1 winner Auguste Rodin, winner of this year's Epsom Derby (G1).
