Interstatedaydream, Crupi Notch Stakes Wins at Aqueduct
With all eyes on the Breeders' Cup Future Stars Friday at Santa Anita Park, Interstatedaydream and Crupi quietly stole the show at Aqueduct Racetrack Nov. 3. Keeneland November Sale-bound Interstatedaydream scored what might be one of her final victories for her connections with a hard-fought win in the $145,500 Turnback the Alarm Stakes. Campaigned by Flurry Racing Stables, Interstatedaydream chased pacesetter Tizzy in the Sky behind splits of :24.42, :47.98, and 1:12.10 early before collaring that rival down the lane. Interstatedaydream ($3.90), ridden by Trevor McCarthy, finished a neck ahead of Tizzy in the Sky, who was four lengths clear of Morning Matcha in third. The final time for the 1 1/8 miles was 1:50.34 on a fast main track. The 4-year-old daughter of Classic Empire registered her fifth stakes win in the Turnback the Alarm and boosted her bankroll to $806,369. Crupi Wins First Stakes in Discovery Later in the afternoon, Crupi rebounded from a fifth-place finish in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) to take the $145,500 Discovery Stakes for 3-year-olds. Owned by Repole Stable and St. Elias Stables, Crupi gave trainer Todd Pletcher his seventh Discovery win on Friday. Stalking the pace in third position down the backstretch under jockey Kendrick Carmouche, the Curlin colt rolled four-wide around the turn and took command at the top of the stretch. Race trailer Winters Lion made a late run at Crupi but couldn't catch the winner, who hit the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front. Crupi ($4.40) stopped the timer in 1:51.60 for the 1 1/8 miles. Winters Lion and Army Times completed the trifecta.
