Henry Argueta, previously an assistant to trainer Jason Servis and one of more than two dozen individuals sentenced in a horse-doping scheme, is now under two years supervised release after time served, according to court documents published Dec. 21. How long Argueta served was not noted in the documents.
Argueta, who pled guilty to counts of conspiracy to defraud the United States, attempt and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and false statements related to health care matters, was ordered to comply with a forfeiture and restitution order.
Federal wiretaps, primarily responsible for the initial charges of the individuals involved in the scheme, captured Argueta speaking with Servis. In filings published in 2021, prosecutors claimed Servis and Argueta joked about Argueta's supposed method for covertly discarding drugs if needed.
"Yeah, I take a shower and put it on my body," Argueta said, laughing.
"Right, so you just put it in a cup and then you have your little syringe ... Right that stuff is good, huh?" Servis replied.
Argueta was also taped conversing with convicted veterinarian Dr. Kristian Rhein, according to Damian Williams, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Wary of law enforcement, Rhein called Argueta in August 2019 and attempted to determine whether a law enforcement agency had approached Servis, Williams wrote in earlier court documents.
