Early Voting's First 2024 Mare Confirmed in Foal
Early Voting, winner of the 2022 Preakness Stakes (G1), who is continuing his stud career this year at Taylor Made Stallions, had his first mare for the 2024 breeding season confirmed in foal last week. The significance of the announcement for the son of Gun Runner is that, as of last spring, the future of his stallion career was uncertain. Early Voting—after having covered 191 mares in 2023—developed a rare condition called anejaculatory syndrome, characterized by a stallion that shows all the signs of a healthy libido but cannot ejaculate. The stallion's case was referred to the reproductive team at the University of Auckland Research Centre in Reproductive Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in New Zealand, which specializes in treating reproductive issues in multiple species. Early Voting was treated under the supervision of Dr. Padraig "Paddy" O'Casaigh. O'Casaigh said he was able to confirm a heartbeat that he described as "spot on, embryonic development" in the mare recently confirmed in foal. Ben Taylor, president of Taylor Made Stallions, said Early Voting is an "attractive breeding opportunity who has already seen 40 mares booked to him. Early Voting has already served five mares this 2024 breeding season." Early Voting started his stud career at Ashford Stud and is now owned by the Early Voting Consortium. He is standing this year for a fee of $20,000.
