Plenty to Catch Eye at OBS March Under Tack Show
During the second session of the under tack show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training March 7, pleasant conditions prevailed, and 15 juveniles earned the bullet for a furlong in :09 4/5, the fastest time of the day. Cesar Loya Training & Sales-consigned Caracaro filly Hip 225 is a half sibling to stakes winner Wizard of Westwood, both out of Figrare. The dam is a half to Japanese grade 1 winner Danon Kingly (JPN), grade 3 winner Danon Legend, and stakes winner Danon Good (JPN). Pope McLean bred the dark bay or brown filly in Kentucky and sold her for $85,000 during the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale to Triple B. The Munnings filly, Hip 229, is offered by Niall Brennan Stables out of the winning Tapizar mare Firefoot, producer of the 2023 Louisiana Futurity-placed Freeburn by Mitole. The page boasts grade 3 winner Bandbox under the second dam. Coteau Grove Farms bred the bay in Louisiana, and she was sold privately for $125,000 during last year's Keeneland September Sale to Crown Investment. An Honest Mischief filly consigned as Hip 243 by Jesse Hoppel's Coastal Equine. Bred in New York by Scott Pierce and Debbie Pierce, the bay out of Forget It is a half sibling to the multiple stakes winner Red Danger. Hoppel purchased the May-born filly for $40,000 from the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Sale. Top Line Sales sent Hip 290, a bay filly by City of Light, out of the well-connected mare Hassler. The dam is out of the multiple grade 1 winner Turbulent Descent and is a War Front half sister to group 3 winner Spanish Steps (IRE). Breeders Jim Daniell and Donna Daniell traded the Kentucky-bred for $195,000 to Lady Bug Bloodstock during the Keeneland September Sale. The Violence colt, consigned as Hip 301 by New Hope AB, is out of Heron Watch, a full sibling to 2014 Sunday Silence Stakes-placed Ride n' Reel. Bred in Kentucky by St. George Farm, he was plucked by his consignor for $9,500 last year during Keeneland September. A pricey pinhook for Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), Hip 304 was sourced from the filly's Kentucky breeder Stonehaven Steadings for $250,000 during the September Sale last year. The Nyquist filly out of High Heeled Girl comes from the fast family of grade 1-placed High Heeled Hope, producer of two graded stakes winners in Lady T N T and Sweet Hope. Eddie Woods consigns the Promises Fulfilled colt, Hot Promise, as Hip 316. The chestnut out of 2012 Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes-placed Hot Fun was bred in Maryland by Randy Ridgely and Gary Ridgely. Woods sourced the April-born colt from the Keeneland September Sale for $110,000. An Improbable colt, consigned by Majestic as Hip 325, out of the stakes-placed Empire Maker mare Inaugurate. The Glen Hill Farm Kentucky-bred initially sold for $125,000 last September to Elena Racing. Another juvenile from the Eddie Woods draft, Hip 395, an Improbable colt out of 2016 Frizette Stakes (G1)-placed Libby's Tail. Horseshoe Racing bred the January-born colt in Kentucky, which sold last year during the September Sale for $135,000 to Eddie Woods, agent for Michael Rullo. The GOP Racing Stable-consigned Twirling Candy colt, Hip 398, is out of the 2017 Buena Vista Stakes (G3)-placed Lily Pod, producer of 2022 Califonia Oaks-placed She's Got a Way, by Tonalist. Sold last year at Keeneland for $95,000 to Pro Racing Stable, the colt was bred in Kentucky by Caldara Farm and William R. Hilliard Jr. An American Freedom filly consigned by Wavertree Stables as Hip 400. The filly out of Limitless was bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones and Vernon Humbert and sold for $70,000 to All Star Bloodstock during the Fasig-Tipton July Selected Yearling Sale last year. A Florida-bred filly by Maximus Mischief, consigned as Hip 418 by Omar Ramirez Bloodstock. The gray or roan out of Magical Flair was bred by Gerardo Bello and last sold during the OBS October Yearling Sale for $15,000 to CNI Racing. The Grade One Investments-consigned Hip 420, a colt by Volatile out of Magic Motion, who is a half sibling to stakes winner Patriot Spirit out of the grade 1 winner Mistical Plan. Bred in Kentucky by Calvin Crain, his consignor purchased him during the September Sale for $110,000. Hip 421 is a Shancelot colt out of the winning course-record-setting Flatter mare Magnolias in Bloom. He was bred by Memory Lane Racing in Kentucky and traded to Waves Bloodstock for $130,000 in September. Katie Miranda's White Lilac offers Hip 422, a colt by Bolt d'Oro, purchased last July at Fasig-Tipton for $150,000 by Franklin Ave Equine, agent for Cliff Racing and Horseology. The Kentucky-bred is out of the Stay Thirsty mare Maisie, a half sibling to multiple graded winner Lovely Bernadette, dam of Japanese stakes winner Grand Bernadette (JPN). Highclere bred the bay January-born colt. The session's co-fastest quarter-mile came in at :20 4/5 on Thursday and was shared by the Pick View-consigned filly Hip 252 by Uncle Mo. Out of Full Swing, a winner from the family of grade 3 winner Excited and a half sibling to 2015 Demoiselle Stakes (G2)-placed Thrilled, Barronstown Stud bred the bay in Kentucky, where she was traded as a weanling during the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $260,000 to Stock Thoroughbreds. The other top quarter-mile work came from a Cajun Breeze colt, Hip 271, from the Tom McCrocklin draft. His consignor bred the colt out of Goldminer's Dream in Florida. The under tack show continues March 8 at 8 a.m. ET, with hips 427-639 scheduled to breeze. The show will be streamed live via the OBS website at www.obssales.com and via BloodHorse.
