M.V. Magnier Strikes for $600K Uncle Mo Filly

A fleet-footed filly by Uncle Mo  commanded $600,000 from Justin Casse, agent for M.V. Magnier, during the opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training April 16. Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent, as Hip 166, the filly zipped a quarter-mile in :20 3/5 at the under tack preview last week.

Bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stables, the bay filly is produced from the graded stakes-winning Congrats mare Jacaranda, a half sister to leading sire and multiple grade 1 winner Constitution  and to Boynton, a group 2 winner in England. The filly is a half sister to grade 1-placed Be You, third in the 2023 American Pharoah Stakes (G1), and to stakes-placed American West. She hails from the family of grade 1 winners Emcee and Awesome Humor.

Alpha Delta Stables acquired the filly's dam for $2 million out of the Hunter Valley Farm consignment at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. Jacaranda originally sold for $250,000 at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where she was purchased by Barry Schwartz from the consignment of Vinery Sales and Millennium Farms. Jacaranda went on to win two of six starts for trainer Michael Hushion, including the 2014 Tempted Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack.

McCrocklin acquired the filly on behalf of Champion Equine for $380,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale.

"She is extremely attractive," Casse said. "(McCrocklin) paid a good price for her as a yearling. Lovely family. The dam is a half sister to Constitution. She's an Uncle Mo filly; everything that you would want from a nice female family sire line, and a possible future broodmare prospect. And she put in a good (breeze) time."

Ashford Stud stallion and perennial standout sire Uncle Mo was represented Saturday by Adare Manor, runaway winner of the Apple Blossom Stakes (G1) at Oaklawn Park. He is also the sire of Kentucky Derby hopeful Grand Mo the First, third in both the Florida Derby (G1) and the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) in March. Uncle Mo is ranked eighth on the General Sires List with progeny earnings in excess of $3.2 million this year.
