Penn National Race Course has its night in the spotlight May 31 as 10 3-year-olds compete in the $400,000 Penn Mile Stakes (G3T). Among those journeying to Grantville, Pa., are graded stakes winners First World War and Trikari.

Qatar Racing and Hunter Valley Farm's First World War will receive the riding services of Frankie Dettori for the first time. After experiments on dirt, the son of War Front  makes his third straight grass appearance. Two starts back he won the Kitten's Joy Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park before finishing a troubled ninth while beaten only three lengths in the Transylvania Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland April 5.

Amerman Racing's Trikari shocked all but his connections when winning the American Turf Stakes (G2T) at Churchill Downs May 4 at odds of 47-1, but the son of Oscar Performance  seems to only keep improving, with victories in three of his last four starts.

Also in the field are stakes winners Aspenite, Good Lord Lorrie, Please Advise, Set, and Freedom Principle.

Penn Oaks Draws 12 Fillies

The $150,000 Penn Oaks has also drawn some graded stakes power in the likes of Resolute Racing's Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T) winner Pounce, who looks to rebound off a disappointing attempt in the April 6 Appalachian Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland.

Dede McGehee's Nice as Pie also looks to get back on track as she makes her two-turn debut after having her four-race win streak snapped in the May 11 Mamzelle Stakes at Churchill Downs.

The Penn Oaks and Mile are races 5 and 6, respectively, with post times of 7:10 and 7:45 p.m. ET.
