Millionaire and four-time Breeders' Cup participant Casa Creed  has been retired.

Trainer Bill Mott told Daily Racing Form, which first reported the news, that the horse "had an issue with the suspensory branch of a hind ankle."

"It was starting to bug him," Mott said. "He's sound now, turned out, we don't want to push him any further. He was very cool, very consistent, very honest. Most of his races have been on the grass, but he did win on the dirt. It'd be nice if somebody gave him an opportunity as a stallion prospect."

Casa Creed, an 8-year-old son of Jimmy Creed , retires with a record of 9-5-6 from 36 starts and $2,691,308 in earnings.

He won four grade 1s—the Fourstardave Handicap (G1) and the Jaipur Stakes (G1) twice each.

Debuting at 2, Casa Creed picked up two wins in his rookie campaign, but really started to find his stride as a 3-year-old. He opened that campaign with a win in the listed Kitten's Joy Stakes before showing his potential with runner-up efforts in the Palm Beach Stakes (G3T) and the Penn Mile Stakes (G2T). That year reached its crescendo with his first graded victory in the Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T).

Then, over the next four years (2020-2023) he ran Breeders' Cup weekend, three times in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) and once in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T). In last year's Breeders' Cup Mile, he finished third, beaten just a half length by race winner Master of The Seas

Casa Creed was bred in Kentucky by Silver Springs Stud and owned by LRE Racing and JEH Racing Stable.
