Whimsical to Test the Value of Experience

A small field of five will take to the Woodbine starting gate May 3 for the $150,000 Whimsical Stakes (G3). The six-furlong race over Woodbine's all-weather track will put the value of experience to the test. All but one of the five fillies and mares have raced at least 14 times. However, French import Earhart (FR) has won her first two starts—both at Woodbine—by a combined 17 3/4 lengths. The daughter of French group 1 winner Siyouni (FR) was most recently third in the Likely Exchange Stakes at Turfway Park, her first black-type affair. Trainer Mark Casse will present two challengers: the Florida-bred Star Candy, last seen fifth in the Bessarabian Stakes (G3), and local product Ticker Tape Home, who was fourth in the Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3). Gal in a Rush, who last year won the Hendrie Stakes (G3), and Ms. Tart, who has been victorious in three of her four starts this year—all at Gulfstream Park—round out the field.
