The Chiba Thoroughbred Sale of 2-Year-Olds will be conducted at Funabashi Racecourse May 26, and Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm, the biggest consignor at the sale, is going to offer 46 ready-to-run horses there.
One of the notable entries from Shadai Farm is Hip 2, a colt by Kizuna, the leading sire in Japan in 2024, and out of Inflamed, who Shadai Farm bought at the 2020 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale for $525,000. The colt is a half brother to Mo Forza , winner of seven graded stakes on turf, including the 2019 Hollywood Derby (G1T) at Del Mar. Mo Forza currently stands at stud at Rancho San Miguel in California for $7,500.
Most lots in the catalog were breezed for two furlongs at the Shadai training track April 30. Hip 16, a colt by Mozu Ascot out of the French Deputy mare Star Actress clocked two furlongs in :21.4. Hip 44, a filly by Al Ain out of Square Gold, went a quarter mile in :21.7. Their appeal could rise with strong performances during the under tack show that precedes the sale.
Bellagio Opera, by Lord Kanaloa, who won the last two editions of the Osaka Hai (G1), was bought at this sale in 2022 for ¥44.1 million (approx. US$337,543). Ten Happy Rose, by Epiphaneia, who last year won the Victoria Mile (G1) and finished fourth in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T), was bought at this sale in 2020 for ¥20.4 million (approx. US$188,140).
