Fierceness, last seen setting a track record in the May 2 Alysheba Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, for the second week in a row leads the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's Top Thoroughbred Poll released June 3.
Fierceness, a 4-year-old son of City of Light won the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:40.66 for owners Repole Stable and Coolmore partners. He is entered in the June 7 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Saratoga Race Course, where he will face four rivals, including the second-place horse on the NTRA's Top Thoroughbred Poll—White Abarrio. The son of Race Day has won both of his starts this year—The Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) and the Ghostzapper Stakes (G3), both at Gulfstream Park.
Fierceness and White Abarrio rank the same as last week, with Fierceness leading with 250 points and 11 first-place votes, and White Abarrio with 239, and 15 first-place votes.
In the 3-year-old poll, Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Journalism sustains his lead over Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Sovereignty with 19 first-place votes, compared to Sovereignty's eight. The two colts will meet again in a much-anticipated rematch in this weekend's Belmont Stakes (G1) at Saratoga.
