Trainer Bill Mott's decision to skip the Preakness proved to be a worthy move, with Sovereignty easily winning the 1 1/4-mile race, finishing almost a full second faster than last year's Belmont winner Dornoch . The Godolphin homebred now boasts a bankroll of $4,872,800, with four wins from seven starts.
Raging Torrent, winner of the June 7 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) overtook the No. 1 spot on the Top Thoroughbred Poll after defeating Fierceness, who had held on to the top spot the past two weeks. Raging Torrent earned 238 points, with eight first-place votes, while Fierceness earned 217 with two first-place votes.
