After one of his fillies took center stage earlier in the week, consignor Omar Ramirez witnessed one of his colts take to the track June 14 and showcase the depth of his consignment for the Ocala Breeders' Sales June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale.

Having already sent out Hip 229, a filly by Cloud Computing, to tie for the bullet move when she breezed a quarter in :20 4/5 June 11, Ramirez enjoyed another highlight Saturday when Hip 829, a bay colt by Airdrie Stud's first-crop sire Beau Liam , equaled the OBS track record for the distance when he worked in :20 1/5 during the fifth and final under tack session.

The Beau Liam colt becomes the first horse to work in :20 1/5 at OBS since a pair of entrants clocked that time at the 2024 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. One of the :20 1/5 workers in that 2024 April sale was Cash Call, winner of the June 7 Summertime Oaks (G3).

"I told Jimbo Gladwell (of Top Line Sales) this morning 'I've got a good one coming out,'" Ramirez laughed. "I was expecting :20 and 3, :20 and 4 and if I was really lucky, :20 and 2. But :20 and 1, that's amazing. He's just a great colt. I knew the work was going to be good. I knew he was going to be the bullet, whatever the bullet was today.

"One of my riders told me to send this horse a quarter because he keeps going, he's not going to stop. He's ready to run."

Bred in Kentucky by La Ciega, the colt is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Sweetnsour Kitty, who is from the female family of graded stakes winner and multiple grade 1-placed Feverish. He also caps off a banner week for Ramirez who believes his 28-horse strong consignment may be his best yet.

One horse worked in :20 4/5, a gray or roan filly by Vino Rosso  consigned at Hip 788 by Blue Sapphire Stables. The filly is out of the winning Unbridled's Song mare Spoken and is from the female family of grade 1 winner and graded stakes producer Preach, dam of sire Pulpit.

Two horses worked in :09 4/5 to tie for the fastest eighth on the day:

  • Hip 754, a bay filly by Spendthrift freshman Yaupon  consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds. The filly is out of the winning, stakes-placed Aldebaran mare Shine Softly, from the female family of 1999 champion turf female Soaring Softly, and is a half sister to stakes winner The Grass Is Blue.
  • Hip 831, a dark bay or brown filly by Pleasant Acres Stallions' first-crop sire Leinster  consigned by S G V Thoroughbreds. The filly is out of the winning Concord Point mare Sweetsweetsweet, who is a half sister to stakes winner Concealedwithakiss.

Though he wasn't part of the slate of under tack workers, another youngster who had a top outing this week was Hip 158, Khon Han, who won via disqualification first time out after crossing the wire second by a nose in the sixth race at Gulfstream Park June 13. Consigned by A B Thoroughbreds, the colt is by Spendthrift Farm freshman sire Rock Your World  and is out of the winning, stakes-placed Bellamy Road mare Bella Alicita.

Full results of the under tack show can also be found on the OBS website.

The OBS June sale takes place June 17-18 with sessions beginning at 10 a.m. ET each day. The sale will be streamed live on the OBS website, as well as the BloodHorse website.
