Ramirez Brings Strong Consignment to OBS June
Three years ago, consignor Omar Ramirez brought a filly by Uncle Mo he bought for $117,000 to the Ocala Breeders June 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale, that sold for $725,000 to famed bloodstock agent Donato Lanni to top the sale. Ramirez is primed once again with a strong consignment of 27 horses for the OBS June Sale June 17-18, including a colt by Airdrie Stud's Beau Liam (Hip 829), who breezed a quarter in :20 1/5 on the final day of the under tack show, tying a track record set last year by recent Summertime Oaks (G3) winner Cash Call. "I was expecting :20 3/5, :20 4/5, if we were lucky, maybe :20 2/5," said Omar Ramirez about Hip 829. "We didn't know how the track was going to be going :20 1/5. We were blessed. "He's a good, sound colt; he's a really, really classy colt. He's beautiful." Hip 829 is the second foal out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Sweetnsour Kitty. Ramirez purchased him out of the 2024 Fasig-Tipton December Digital Sale for $3,000. He was bred in Kentucky by La Ciega. Ramirez said he has had luck with Beau Liam as a stallion; he sold a colt by him at the OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale for $200,000 to Carriganog Racing, after he breezed a quarter in :20 3/5. Ramirez has a slew of other juveniles with potential, including Hip 512, a colt by Modernist, who breezed an eighth in :09 4/5, the fastest time at that distance during the under tack show. He also sent out Hip 229, a filly by Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Cloud Computing who breezed a quarter in :20 4/5. Hip 512 sold for $11,000 as a weanling at the 2023 Keeneland November Sale and was bought back for $35,000 at the 2024 OBS October Yearling Sale. "He breezed really well for me," Ramirez said about Hip 512. This colt is gorgeous, beautiful walker, smart colt too. He's a big two-turn colt. He's got a lot of talent." Hip 229 is out of the stakes-winning mare Clever Beauty. She is the dam of six foals of racing age, five to race, with four winners. Hip 229 was another bargain—failing to meet her reserve with a final bid of $18,000 at Fasig-Tipton's July Sale last summer. "This is probably my best consignment I've had in a long time. All my horses performed good, came back good, and are showing really well."
