Late Stallion Uncle Chuck Sires First Winner in Florida

Journeyman Stud's late stallion Uncle Chuck sired his first winner when the filly Chucky's Ride scored July 5 at Gulfstream Park. A runner-up in her debut June 19 at Gulfstream, Shade Tree Thoroughbreds' homebred Chucky's Ride went off as the even-money favorite in her second career outing. Facing a field of seven other 2-year-old fillies in the 5 1/2-furlong state-bred maiden special weight, Chucky's Ride led from gate to wire, cruising to the line a convincing winner by 2 1/4 lengths. Trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Miguel Vasquez, Chucky's Ride stopped the timer in 1:06.35 over a sloppy main track. She paid $4.20 to win. Chucky's Ride is one of six winners produced by the Put It Back mare Jim's Lonesa. The 16-year-old mare is responsible for 2020 Selene Stakes (G3) victress Two Sixty (Uncaptured) and the Casse-trained Karaya (Bucchero), third in this year's Ladies' Turf Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream and second in two stakes last year. Uncle Chuck, a graded stakes-winning son of Uncle Mo, was humanely euthanized in December after an untreatable form of lymphoma was found in the young stallion. A half brother to successful stallion Maclean's Music, Uncle Chuck sired 82 reported foals in his first Northern Hemisphere crop of 2023. He attracted a book of 68 mares during the 2023 breeding season, which put him among the top five stallions in Florida by number of mares bred. Uncle Chuck also was shuttled twice to Argentina for the 2022 and 2023 Southern Hemisphere breeding seasons.
