The Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (PTHA), in partnership with Parx Racing, is pleased to announce the addition of a live race day on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to help offset the recent cancellations caused by extreme summer heat. The added race day will provide opportunities for horsemen and fans alike as Parx Racing continues to prioritize safety while maintaining a successful summer schedule.
"Extreme heat caused us to cancel racing in the interest of safety, for both our human and equine athletes," said Jeff Matty, Jr., Executive Director of the PTHA. "We're grateful to our partners at Parx Racing and the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission for working swiftly to add July 24th to our calendar. This day will help make up for lost opportunities and maintain momentum for our horsemen as we head into our summer-break."
Entries for July 24 will be taken on Sunday, July 20th.
"Parx Racing and our management team look forward making up cancelled race days when possible. Our horsemen support our program year-round, we reciprocate the support whenever possible," said David Osojnak, Parx Director of Racing.
July 24th will be the last live race day before the annual Parx Summer Break. The break will continue until Monday, August 18th when racing resumes. That day will be highlighted by PTHA's Owners & Trainers Appreciation Day, which features increased purses throughout the day and a luncheon with giveaways for horsemen. Purses will range from $50,000 to $100,000 throughout the card for overnight races, with one stake for straight 3-year-olds.
"Days like this are what we are most proud of, days where we can show appreciation and highlight our horsemen who we represent and work for." said Victoria Mangini, PTHA Director of Operations.
