United Nations Distance No Obstacle for Redistricting

"Good horses give you a good punch and that's what he gave me," Flavien Prat said.

No matter the distance, Redistricting is at home on the grass at Monmouth Park.

Five weeks after romping in front-running fashion in the 1 1/8-mile Monmouth Stakes at the New Jersey track, the 5-year-old Kingman  gelding proved he is similarly adept over a 1 3/8-mile distance in taking the $612,000 United Nations Stakes (G2T) over a firm turf course there July 19.

His versatility is not limited to distance. On Saturday, he came from just off the pace in third, drafting behind longtime leader Major Dude and pace-pressing Limited Liability, before asserting his superiority in the stretch. Having saved ground around all three turns, jockey Flavien Prat angled Redistricting between Major Dude and a weakening Limited Liability in early stretch, and his classy mount did the rest. He quickly collared Major Dude by midstretch and pulled clear for a 1 1/2-length triumph over Grand Sonata, who rallied belatedly to pass Major Dude for the runner-up spot. The latter held the show.

The victory from Redistricting gave trainer Chad Brown his fourth win on Saturday's Haskell Stakes (G1) program.

"He showed that he really liked this turf course in his last start," assistant trainer Luis Cabrera said. "He won very easily—actually, today he was pretty good too. The trip was perfect. He likes to run in front, but if someone else goes he can sit there off the pace."

The winner was clocked in 2:13.75 for the distance over a firm turf course after moderate fractions of :24.55, :49.42, 1:14.10, and 1:37.80 set by Major Dude. Late betting action resulted in him starting as a heavy favorite. He paid $4.60 for a $2 win wager.

Prat won his third race of the day aboard Redistricting.

"He got himself into the race. I was going to go but I felt like Major Dude was committed to going so I sat right behind him," Prat said of his mount. "Good horses give you a good punch, and that's what he gave me when I got through."

Three horses—Corruption, Hush of a Storm, and 2024 United Nations winner Get Smokin—were scratched, leaving nine starters. The Mark Casse-trained Get Smokin was withdrawn Saturday due to the quarantine of barn 28 at Saratoga Race Course related to a suspected case of strangles involving another horse in that barn, according to a social media post from co-owner Ironhorse Racing Stable.

Another horse, Starting Over, did not complete the race, having been pulled up on the final turn with an apparent leg injury. He left the course in an equine ambulance.

Bred in Great Britain by Farm Cove Thoroughbreds, Redistricting is one of four black-type runners out of the Montjeu mare Cascata, and his dam's first stakes winner. He was purchased for the equivalent of $199,669 by bloodstock agent Mike Ryan from the Fittocks Stud consignment at the 2021 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Redistricting improved to 4-2-0 in 10 starts and increased his earnings to $645,750 for owner Seth Klarman of Klaravich Stables. The United Nations was the gelding's first victory at the graded level after he had earned graded placings when second in both the 2024 Seabiscuit Handicap (G2T) and Knickerbocker Stakes (G3T).

Kingman stood this year at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud in Great Britain for £125,000 (approx. US$167,650).
