Led by the sale of a yearling Speightstown colt for CA$400,000 (US$292,000, CA$1=US$0.73), gross receipts during the Aug. 27 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Div.) Premier Yearling Sale at Woodbine totaled CA$3,638,000 (US$2,655,740) from 133 hips sold. The average sales price was CA$27,353 (US$19,968), with a median of CA$15,000 (US$10,950).
Buoyed by the top-priced hip, the average rose from last year's CA$26,297, though median and gross were down compared to 143 hips sold in 2024 for a total CA$3,727,700 and CA$19,000 median. The high-priced lot fetched CA$250,000 in 2024.
Trainer Michael De Paulo, as agent, purchased Wednesday's sales topper, Hip 109, from the Huntington Stud Farm consignment. The chestnut colt is out of the Into Mischief mare Travieza, an open stakes winner at Santa Anita Park.
"We were very pleased with the strength of the trade this year, particularly in the middle market," David Anderson, president of CTHS Ontario, said in a release. "The quality of horses showcased by our breeders and the enthusiastic support of buyers have made this sale another milestone for our industry achieving the highest average we've seen in 11 years."

The organization stated that it remains committed to collaborating with government partners and industry associations to further enhance and expand programs that strengthen and grow the Thoroughbred community.
CTHS Ontario reported record online engagement, noting viewership for the online broadcast soared to new heights, accompanied by a record-setting volume of sales through online bidding.
