The Inglis Digital USA September Sale closed Sept. 3 with the broodmare Jill's a Hot Mess taking center stage, topping trade at $145,000 from buyer Bluewater Sales, agent.
The 7-year-old daughter of Laoban was offered pregnant to the meteoric Vekoma , the leading freshman sire of 2024, with what will be her second foal.
Bred in New York by Michael Galvin, Jill's a Hot Mess won four races and earned $331,220 on the racetrack, also finishing second in a division of the New York Stallion Series Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack as a 2-year-old. She is out of the Orientate mare Miss Peyote, with a page that includes 2024 champion male sprinter and future WinStar Farm stallion Straight No Chaser, as well as grade 1 winner Housebuster, and grade 2 winners Quero Quero, Something Extra, and Gun Song.
"We have loved the ease and fun of the digital sales process, both selling and buying," said Meg Levy of Bluewater Sales. "Timing for this mare was perfect, with the weekend Vekoma had. That's the beauty of the process."
Over the holiday weekend Aug. 29-31 at Saratoga Race Course, Spendthrift Farm's Vekoma was represented by Prioress Stakes (G3) winner Praying, as well as a pair of 2-year-old maiden special weight winners.
Brookdale consigned Jill's a Hot Mess, as agent, and offered her for inspection at the operation's Versailles, Ky., farm.
"Jill's a Hot Mess is a strong young mare who could really run, and she is in foal to one of the of the hottest young stallions in Vekoma," said Brookdale director of sales Sarah Seitz. "The Inglis Digital USA sale came at the right time to highlight a mare like her. (Inglis Digital USA CEO) Kyle (Wilson) and his team were great in keeping us informed once the sale went live and promoting the mare on social media platforms. It was a very professional experience all around."
At the time of the sale's closing Wednesday evening, 36 horses sold for a gross of $383,750; averaging $10,660. The median was $4,125. Twenty-nine horses failed to meet their reserve, resulting in an RNA rate of 44.6%. The full results can be viewed here.
Leading the way among the racing-age offerings was Chado, who sold to Jerry Romans Jr. for $55,000.
A 3-year-old colt by American Freedom , Chado entered the sale off a 6 1/4-length starter allowance score Aug. 22 at Colonial Downs, where he fought for the lead in the seven-furlong race and padded his advantage in the stretch. It was his second career victory, and tipped his earnings into six figures.
"I'm really pleased about getting Chado sold," trainer Jason McCutchen said. "It was a very easy and successful experience. I can't wait to do it again."
Bred in Kentucky by Shawhan Place, Courtney Schneider, and Gus Koch, Chado is out of the Medaglia d'Oro mare Oriole, from the family of grade 1 winner Pompeii and grade 3 winners Take the Cake, Ground Storm, and Omi.
"We had a large cross section of offerings, and it was great to see activity from all over the country, and the world for that matter," Inglis Digital USA CEO Kyle Wilson said. "We appreciate the support of our longtime customers, and we welcomed some new ones this sale as well. We'll be back at it in a month!"
Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital USA Early October Sale, and they will be taken through Sept. 22. The catalog will be released Sept. 26, and bidding will close Oct. 1.
