The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to award $5,000 to Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation to be used for its Second Chances program.
Maggie Sweet, Executive Director, states, "The TRF was founded in 1983, making it the oldest and largest Thoroughbred aftercare organization in the United States. We are dedicated to providing dignified lifetime care for retired racehorses, most of whom remain with us for 15 to 20 years. Some arrive after a second or third post-racing career, while others come directly from the racetrack. No matter where their journey begins, it ends with the safe landing TRF is proud to provide. TRF collaborates with correctional facilities in eight states to provide vocational training to inmates who, in turn, care for horses that are not suitable for second athletic careers. Thank you to TERF for their long-standing support of our mission."
TERF's grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis. TERF's current Board includes Co-Chairs Kathleen Anderson, DVM and James Orsini, DVM, Lynne Cassimeris, Ph.D., Margaret Duprey, Roy Jackson, Katelyn Jackson, Ellen Moelis, Cory Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Scott Palmer, VMD, Will Phipps, and Josh Pons.
