Not This Time  is one of those unique sires whose progeny includes graded stakes winners under multiple conditions, from turf to dirt, and either over long or short distances.

Some of his runners, like Troubleshooting, also have the versatility to do more than one thing well. Troubleshooting showed as much Oct. 25 at Keeneland, parlaying a victory in the 6 1/2-furlong Franklin-Simpson Stakes (G1T) last month at Kentucky Downs into another stakes success, this time in the $600,000 Bryan Station Stakes (G3T) over a mile. Both races were on grass.

Though Saturday's stakes race was his first route in 10 starts, he ran like a seasoned competitor under the conditions, always in a contending position under jockey Tyler Gaffalione. He tracked front-running Golden Afternoon—who Troubleshooting had beaten when sprinting at Kentucky Downs—pressing him through fractions of :23.83, :47.92, and 1:12.34, before asserting his superiority in the stretch. He shot clear of the pack with a furlong to run and had enough left to outlast hard-charging stalker Tenacious Leader by a neck. He stopped the timer in 1:35.78 over a grass course rated firm.

"He's got a ton of natural ability," said Gaffalione, who noted his mount began "looking around" in midstretch.

The rider won the Bryan Station for the second time after initial success aboard Balnikhov in the 2022 race.

Taking late action in the closing seconds of wagering to dip from 5-1 odds to start as the 7-2 favorite in the field of 12, Troubleshooting paid $9.76 to win. He is 4-3-0 over his career with earnings of $1,735,106. The bulk of that, $1,703,832, has been made in seven starts in 2025, all since trainer Greg Foley shifted him from racing on dirt to competing on turf.

"It's been a heck of a ride," Foley said of the past two months.

Giocoso got up in a blanket finish to grab the show spot ahead of Dream On in fourth.

The four top finishers are all progeny of Not This Time. He was represented by seven starters in the race.

A homebred for Mira Ball's Donamire Farm and raised at the Kentucky farm, Troubleshooting is out of the stakes-winning Into Mischief  mare Into Trouble. He is the second black-type horse produced from Into Trouble after the twice stakes-placed Big Trouble (Kantharos ). She also has a 2-year-old maiden, Trouble Calling, who has a second and a third in two starts.

Not This Time, the second-leading stallion in North America this year by progeny earnings, will stand the 2026 breeding season at Taylor Made Stallions for $250,000.

Asked about the future options for the versatile Troubleshooting, Foley answered, "Let's put it this way: I'm glad Breeders' Cup is (at Keeneland) next year."

Gallivant Struts His Stuff in Bowman Mill

The Bryan Station Stakes shared Saturday's closing-day card of the fall meet with the Fayette Stakes (G2) and Bowman Mill Stakes.

The latter race, reduced to a field of four 2-year-olds following three scratches, was won by the talented maiden Gallivant, who closed from last in a style change from his Oct. 4 debut at Keeneland when he shot to the lead before tiring to third. Closing from last under Luan Machado, the Ben Colebrook trainee overhauled front-running favorite Spun D M C in early stretch and drew off for a 6-length victory. He was clocked covering 6 furlongs in 1:11.17.

Gallivant ($6.72) is a 2-year-old son of six-time leading sire Into Mischief. He is a homebred for LNJ Foxwoods, produced from the Munnings mare Fancy Dress Party, who Colebrook trained to win the 2019 Beaumont Stakes (G3) at Keeneland for LNJ Foxwoods.
