JS Company's Autumn Broodmare Sale Sees Record Average

Activity was strong at the Autumn Broodmares Sale conducted by JS Company at Shizunai Oct. 22. A total of 132 lots from 189 lots offered were sold for ¥837,100,000, approx. US$5.48 million, a 7.7% increase from 2024, and the third highest gross in the sale's history. The average price was up 28.9% to ¥6,341,667 (approx. US$41,527), a new record for the Autumn Broodmares Sale. The session started with fireworks as Hip 1, Aspaldiko, a 5-year-old mare by Black Tide (JPN), consigned by prominent Japanese owner/breeder Kaneko Makoto Holdings sold for ¥100,000,000 (approx. US$652,486) to Yosuke Imafuku. She sold in foal to Isla Bonita (JPN), winner of the Satsuki Sho (G1). She is the fifth foal out of Apapane (JPN), who swept the Triple Crown for 3-year-old fillies in 2010 and was crowned JRA champion filly in 2009-2010. Her three-parts sister is 2021 Shuka Sho (G1) winner Akaitorino Musume (JPN). Imafuku, a Tokyo-based businessman, started to enjoy racehorse ownership in 2023 and won his first graded stakes at Niigata Aug. 24, when Realize Resius (JPN), a 2-year-old colt by Poetic Flare (IRE) won the Niigata Nisai Stakes (G3). Hip 2, Cool Water, a 9-year-old mare by Deep Impact, offered by the same consignor as Aspaldiko, was bought by Champions Farm for ¥65,000,000 (approx. US$424116)—the second-highest price of the sale.
