Shisospicy Heads Top Offerings At F-T November Sale
Fasig-Tipton's November Sale, the company's prestigious breeding stock sale, takes place Nov. 3 in Lexington with some of the highest-quality weanlings, broodmares, and broodmare or racing prospects in North America on offer. The sale was enhanced by several updates during the Breeders' Cup World Championships Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Del Mar, topped by the dominating victory by Shisospicy in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T). The 3-year-old daughter of Mitole made history, becoming the first 3-year-old filly to win the Turf Sprint over older male rivals. She is cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect (Hip 147), and will be consigned by Gainesway, agent, who will get a second opportunity to send the filly through Fasig's sale ring as they also sold her as a yearling at the 2023 July Selected Yearling Sale, where she was picked up by top pinhookers Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds for $200,000—a price tag much less than what is expected come Monday evening. Brian Graves, general manager of Gainesway, purchased Shisospicy as a weanling at the 2023 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale for $100,000. "Our history with Shisospicy goes way back," Graves said. "I bought her as a weanling myself for our pinhooking partners. The main reason I was attracted to her as a foal is because she was stunning. She was just an absolute stunner, leggy... just the definition of a top physical. Long, beautiful neck, and sloping shoulder and big hip. We brought her to the July Sale where she was well-liked and well-vetted. "Her win at Kentucky Downs (Music City Stakes) was really, really impressive, and what she did yesterday (in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint) was an elite performance. She's the only 3-year-old filly to win that race in history. She's at the pinnacle of her division. We'll see what happens here at the sale." Boyd Browning Jr., president and CEO of Fasig-Tipton, was equally as excited to offer the special filly at their prestigious sale. "It was a breathtaking performance that she displayed," Browning said. "She ran an exceptional group of horses off their feet. It was a double sweep, because we've got her dam (Mischief Galore) in the sale also. I'm so thrilled for her connections and the man who owns her dam. "And, I can't leave out Ag Bullet, who ran a tremendous race to finish second. We couldn't be any happier heading into tomorrow." Taylor Made Sales Agency will offer the dam of Shisospicy—Mischief Galore (Hip 160), in foal to 2021 champion male sprinter Jackie's Warrior. The 9-year-old Into Mischief mare is the dam of two foals of racing age, both winners. Ag Bullet (Hip 183) made it a female exacta in the Turf Sprint, finishing a game second behind Shisospicy. Ag Bullet is no stranger to taking on the boys as she won the Jaipur Stakes (G1T) over the summer at Saratoga Race Course, and finished third in last year's Turf Sprint. The 5-year-old mare became Twirling Candy's top earner after her effort Saturday, amassing more than $2.9 million in earnings over her illustrious career. She will be offered by Mill Ridge Sales, agent as a racing or broodmare prospect. Another huge update occurred Oct. 31 when top 2-year-old Ted Noffey won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), adding a third grade 1 win to his resume and further elevating his dam Streak of Luck (Hip 220) ahead of her time in the sales ring. The 10-year-old mare will be offered in foal to top sire Not This Time by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Aaron and Marie Jones. "He's 4-for-4, he's won three grade 1 races," Browning said of Ted Noffey. "He's a hell of a horse. Beautiful mare (Streak of Luck) is obviously in foal to one of the hottest stallions in the world—Not This Time. It's a very, very exciting package. The mare's still very young. The potential is amazing there." Wrapping up the family of Breeders' Cup-winning offerings is Hip 188—Attabe, a 5-year-old half sister to Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Nysos, in foal to 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline. She is consigned by Woods Edge Farm, agent. This year's sale will offer a first look at many weanlings by first-crop sires, including 2023 Horse of the Year Cody's Wish. The son of Curlin stood his first year at Darley near Lexington for an advertised fee of $75,000. He won back-to-back editions of the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at ages 4 and 5. Foals by Juddmonte Farm's Elite Power, who was voted champion male sprinter in 2022 and 2023, will also be up for grabs. Also a son of Curlin, Elite Power won back-to-back runnings of the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) to highlight his championship campaigns. He stood his first year for an advertised fee of $50,000. "It's always fun to see these first-crop sires," Browning said. "There's another really good group this year. They'll be well received as they always are." Last year's sale saw 178 horses sell for $96,423,500, including private sales. The average price was $541,705 with a median of $250,000. The top-priced horse was McKulick (GB), who brought $6 million from Narvick International, for Grand Stud from the ELiTE consignment. Twenty-six horses sold for $1 million or more. The sale begins Monday at 4:00 p.m. As of Sunday evening, Fasig-Tipton had reported 36 outs.
