Raging Sea Could Make Last Start in Falls City
Dual grade 1 winner Raging Sea is possible for the $400,000 Falls City Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs Nov. 27, a start that trainer Chad Brown said would likely be the last of her career. A six-time graded stakes-winning homebred for Alpha Delta Stables, the daughter of Curlin entered the season as one of the leading contenders in the Distaff division after closing out 2024 with wins in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) and Beldame Stakes (G2) before finishing runner-up to Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1). The 2025 season started on the same hoof with a strong come-from-behind victory in the La Troienne Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs. Her late turn of foot, however, was not set up in her remaining starts of the summer at Saratoga Race Course as she placed third in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) and Shuvee Stakes (G2) before finishing fourth in the Personal Ensign Aug. 23. Raging Sea resurfaced on the worktab at Churchill Downs Oct. 25 and has posted three easy half-mile works, most recently posting :51 Nov. 9. "We're thinking about trying to make the Falls City, one more start for her before she heads off to be a broodmare," Brown said. "We'll see if she gets there." Out of the unraced Storm Cat mare Stormy Welcome, Raging Sea has a record of 8-2-3 from 17 starts for earnings of $2,259,318.
