Mrs. Astor Attempts to Go Back to Back in Red Carpet
Mrs. Astor will try to duplicate the result from a year ago in seeking a second consecutive victory in the Red Carpet Stakes (G3T) when the $100,000 race is renewed Nov. 23 at Del Mar. The Lookin At Lucky mare is not only pursuing a repeat score, but she also has a streak of six straight races in which she has hit the board. That run of achievement began with her win in last year's Red Carpet, which is contested over 1 3/8 miles on turf. A George Strawbridge Jr. homebred who races under his Augustin Stables banner, Mrs. Astor has been in stellar form since trainer Jonathan Thomas stretched her out in distance. All but one of her races since October 2024 have been at 1 1/4 miles or longer. Mrs. Astor is one of two Red Carpet runners for Thomas and Strawbridge, the other being the grade 3-winning Will Then, a 3-year-old filly. Having even more depth in the grass race for fillies and mares is trainer Phil D'Amato, who has three runners in the 10-horse lineup: Public Assembly, Sun Of Hill (BRZ), and Musical Rhapsody (IRE). Trainer Peter Eurton brings the C R K Stable's Paradise Lake into the Red Carpet for her stakes debut after a well-rated allowance optional claimer victory up the road at Santa Anita Park. After rain earlier in the week in Southern California, skies are expected to clear beginning Nov. 22 and continuing into Sunday.
