Fully Subscribed Much The Best in Comely Stakes
Klaravich Stables' Fully Subscribed notched her second graded stakes score Dec. 7 in the $200,000 Comely Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack, winning by 4 lengths over multiple graded stakes winner Quietside, who finished a nose ahead of Ourdaydreaminggirl. Trained by Chad Brown, who secured his third consecutive win in the Comely, the daughter of Tiz the Law was coming in off a win in last month's Mother Goose Stakes (G2). Sent off as the 1-2 favorite, Fully Subscribed broke sharply and put pressure on pacesetter Kappa Kappa, who cut fractions of :24.01, :49.23, and 1:13.56. Fully Subscribed made her move coming into the far turn under Flavien Prat, surging home to win the 1 1/8 mile race in a final time of 1:50.55. "She gave herself a good trip," Prat said. "She broke very well and I was able to get myself in the race and kind of stick with the filly (Kappa Kappa) of Johnny Velazquez. I felt like I was in control the whole way." Yes It Tiz, who crossed the wire in fourth place, was declared a non-starter following a steward's inquiry where she remained in the hands of an assistant starter at the break. "We thought the one on the outside (Quietside) and Johnny (Velazquez) would go (forward) but it was a bit of a messy start and my filly jumped so well, I didn't want to take anything away from her," Prat said. "It felt like the pace wasn't crazy and I wanted to keep her in a good position, but (trainer Chad Brown) told me she was a good filly and she had a good run—and she showed it." Fully Subscribed paid $3.14 to win. Bred in Kentucky by Payson Stud, Fully Subscribed passed through the sales ring twice before being picked up by Klaravich Stables for $300,000 at last year's Ocala Breeders' Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. Hold Your Breath Gets First Stakes Win in Garland of Roses Main Line Racing Stable and Avalon Racing Stables' Hold Your Breath secured her first stakes win in the $150,000 Garland of Roses Stakes, winning by 2 lengths over race favorite With the Angels. The daughter of McKinzie was coming off a 9 3/4 length romp in an allowance optional claiming race Nov. 12 at Parx Racing for trainer John Servis. On Sunday, she was sent to the lead under jockey Joel Rosario and led through swift fractions of :22.93, :46.07, and :57.73 as With the Angels settled behind her in second. Hold Your Breath fought gamely in the stretch, holding off a strong bid from With Your Angels under Flavien Prat and finishing the 6-furlong race in a final time of 1:09.76. Patricia Ann was third. "We were in a good spot on the outside," Rosario said. "She came out of there running nice. She ran very good. She had another gear, and the whole time, she was there for me. It looked like there was another horse or a couple with speed, but man, she was fast. She got out of there and she looked like she wanted to go, and she loved to be up there. After that, I just let her do her thing and she just took me for a ride. That was nice." Hold Your Breath was bred in Kentucky by Highclere, Constance Wickes, and Rocky Top Racing. Kim Valerio, agent, picked the filly up for $135,000 at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale in 2023. The filly paid $8.08 to win.
